It's Art Fair week in New York and with The Armory Show and it's eleven satellite art fairs this year only occupying space from March 4 - 7 is it possible for one man to make it to all of them in four days?
Starting early Thursday morning I'm running the art gauntlet. Here is the order:
Volta NY, Verge New York, Independent, Korean Art Show, Red Dot, Pulse, Scope New York, Fountain New York, The Art Show (ADAA) , The Armory Show, Dutch Art Now, Pool
I'm going to be documenting the line art, as well as anything sculptural that catches my eye, but mainly line art. Who's making it, and what galleries are showing it.

A few days before the fairs all kicked off for Armory Arts Week I sent out individual yet almost identical emails to the PR people for the various fairs letting them know that I was interested in getting press access and covering their event. The first response was from Volta NY. I decided that would be a great place to start.
Volta NY is The Armory's cutting edge compendium show (they actually sell package deal tickets for both at a discount). I went to Volta NY last year, and arrived near closing so I basically had to run though it, but I was really impressed by the layout, and the prestiege the artists got, so I was looking forward to being able to really take in the artist's work this year. . .<< CONTINUE READING /POST COMMENTS AFTER THE JUMP

VERGE ART FAIR AT THE DYLAN HOTEL

After I left Volta NY I walked a few blocks east to The Dylan Hotel to check out the Professional Preview of Verge, which is Michael Workman's evolution of last year's Bridge Art Fair. According to their press packet:
"Verge is an international platform for the most exciting and interesting in new and emerging art."
The real problem I had with this fair was the overwhelmingly constant reminder that you are not in a fair, you are in a very expensive hotel, which does not want artists or gallerists drilling into their walls, hanging or removing lights, or even removing beds from rooms. . .<< CONTINUE READING /POST COMMENTS AFTER THE JUMP

Molly scored free tickets to Broadway's "Rock of Ages". A retro 80s campy love ballad to a ficticious Sunset Strip CBGB's of Glam Rock, which was surprisingly fun as fuck.

Sony's PR people send me emails once in a while alerting me to new albums they are releasing, I'm assuming so I will write about them here. Well today they sent an email titled CHECK OUT CHRISTINA AGUILERA'S NEW SINGLE ARTWORK!!!. I don't know if you noticed it, but that's an email subject with three exclamation points. How could I not check it out? It's almost like they were begging for a critique.
So I checked it out. . . The artwork sucks. OK, the pose is sexy. Christina in her time off between albums had a kid or two, and somehow became asian, but still a very leggy and curvy shot. My problem is with the line art. . .

I took a trip out to the Hunterdon Art Museum in historic Clinton, New Jersey to see an opening of their new exhibits, but mainly the opening of their new exhibit of comic book legend Jack Kirby's original comic book line work "THE MARVELOUS ART OF JACK KIRBY". If you don't know who Jack Kirby the cartoonist was, you do know some of the character's he has left behind.. . .
