SO MUCH FOR PRINCE CHARMING
CAN YOU BEAT THIS CAPTION? WIN AN ART SUCKS PRIZE PACK!
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2010 - RIDGEWOOD, QUEENS, NY
In disappointing news via an LA Times Article, Disney Animation has declared that they are ceasing production on all fairy tale films AKA "princess movies" after the release of "Tangled" their new Rapunzel romp.
Disney has been in "The Princess Business" since their first animated film, "Snow White" in 1937. It will be sad to see them go, but I think. . .

LOOK KIDS, MY ARTWORK GOT ON THE HBO LAST NIGHT
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2010 - NEW YORK, NY
It's funny how things work out sometimes. I was at the red carpet premiere of this season of HBO's Bored to Death, and now a month and a half later the season finale airs and some of my artwork got screen time. . .

BUSHWICK'S BETA SPACES ART CRAWL
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2010 - BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN, NY
Everyone from the Hyperallergic show and the Famous Accountants show kept telling me I had to check out Beta Spaces on Sunday. This is the 4th annual Beta Spaces, where dozens of "curators" set up pop-up art galleries in the oddest of places. Clothing shops, cafes, apartments, pretty much everywhere there is an empty wall. I've never seen this sort of guerilla gallery crawl and it was a nice change of pace from all of the Chelsea stuff I've been seeing lately.
The work itself, like the spaces was much more raw. The artists, mostly untested. But it's almost the jerry riggedness of it all that gave it a "struggling artist" vibe that high end galleries can't pull off. . .

For anyone who's never seen The James Kalm Report, you are really missing out on one of the art world's best kept vlogging secrets. ANDREW OHANESIAN AT FAMOUS ACCOUNTANTS
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2010 - RIDGEWOOD, QUEENS, NY
After leaving #THESOCIALGRAPH I made a brisk walk back to my neighborhood for the opening of Brooklyn based artist Andrew Ohanesian's site specific instillation "Untitled" (The Jetway) at Famous Accountants Gallery.
In this instillation the gallery literally had to rip out their back wall to accommodate a true-to-life airplane jetway, in which upon entering and walking the length of the suffocating corridor with a little suspension of disbelief you can become transported into a small craft plane terminal in the basement of a Brooklyn brownstone. . .

#THESOCIALGRAPH OPENING AT OUTPOST
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2010 - RIDGEWOOD, QUEENS, NY
The above project was an interactive performance art piece called Being Telepresent by artist An Xiao for the Hyperallergic show #THESOCIALGRAPH at Outpost in Ridgewood, Queens curated by Hrag Vartanian.
I had to check out the opening for this cutting edge show Hrag had put together that explores how social media has increasingly encroached upon the fine art world and has started to make it it's bitch, or depending on how you look at it, it's symbiote. . .

HECTOR HAMMOND'S HABERDASHERY
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2010 - NEW YORK, NY
From the pages of The Green Lantern comic books to the silver screen Green Lantern evil yet paralyzed mutated genius supervillian Hector Hammond wears a lot of hats. Actually his dome is too large to house a hat, but if he did. . . Here is what it would look like to try to stretch a variety of styles of headwear over Hammond's crazy cranium. I drew this for Wizard Magazine's back page. . .

ART SUCKS BUTTONS AT ART & FASHION SHOW
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2010 - TIMES SQUARE - NEW YORK, NY
I responded to a craigslist post about an art show looking for fashion and apparel designers to display at an art and fashion event at Croton Reservoir Tavern presented by Funky Child Apparel. Considering I have a ton of comic book inspired buttons I figured it would be interesting to play vendor rather than artist for a night. Who knew I'd end up putting on a live drawing performance . .
