THE DUMBO ART FEST OPEN STUDIOS
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2010 - DUMBO, BROOKLYN, NY
I decided to spend the afternoon of my birthday with complete strangers looking at art. The Dumbo Arts Festival is an event I've never attended. Basically dozens of artists open their studios to the public. The Dumbo art scene is completely foreign to me so I was curious to see what has been going on under the bridges. I haven't hung out in Dumbo in over a decade.
I joined up with an art meetup group in hopes that somebody with some idea of where to go would lead the way to the best work. I picked up a map at a kiosk, but that just shows location, not quality. . .<< CONTINUE READING / POST COMMENTS AFTER THE JUMP
LICHTENSTEIN & DEGAS AT THE MORGAN LIBRARY
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2010 - 225 MADISON AVENUE, NEW YORK, NY
The morning of my birthday I took my Smithsonian Museum Day free ticket to the Morgan Library for the Lichtenstein exhibit. It was of his early line drawings, none of which I could photograph because of the Morgan's strict no photo policy. They were all drawings he copies LINE FOR LINE from magazine ads, comic books (entire panels) and other advertising. Just lifted directly from other artists work. Here's the kicker. . .they had the actual DC comic books behind glass opened to the pages he stole from, so you could see the panel, look up, and see the b & w drawing Lichtenstein did, copying the lines and even emulating the printing dot matrix. . .<< CONTINUE READING / POST COMMENTS AFTER THE JUMP

FAMOUS ACCOUNTANTS GALLERY IN GREATER BUSHWICK
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2010 - BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN, NY
Having recently moved to Ridgewood, Queens I started looking around online to see if there were any art galleries in the neighborhood. Ridgewood is on the border of Bushwick, Brooklyn. In fact it's the dividing line between Brooklyn and Queens and is starting to become gentrified by Artists, actors, and musicians - myself and Molly included. I also learned recently that my area is also called "Greater Bushwick" as people are only recently learning the name Ridgewood.
One of the two galleries I have found and the first I have had an opportunity to visit was FAMOUS ACCOUNTANTS GALLERY which is actually at 1673 Gates Street (only a few blocks from my studio which is on Woodward Avenue between Gates and Palmetto).
The gallery is in the basement of a brownstone and the sign on the fence is tiny, but they had an interesting show of Alvin Baltrop's posthumous display of his photographs from 1971 - 1991.

PAINTING COMES ALIVE! ART OPENING
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2010 - CHINATOWN, NEW YORK, NY
Me and my fellow alumns left the SVA Mixer and straphung it down to Chinatown for the ART JAIL opening of Painting Comes Alive!, a survey of recent developments in abstract painting.
I'm not a big follower of abstract but the work was colorful and the people attending and participating were an eclectic and interesting mix. The open bar was fully stocked with top shelf liquor, and the place (although invisible from ground level) was packed to capacity. . .

BORED TO DEATH SEASON 2 RED CARPET PREMIERE
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2010 - 566 LAGUARDIA PLACE, NEW YORK, NY
After my buddy Sly and I got through photographing my art dog uptown we shot down to the village to meet my girlfriend Molly at her theatre for the red carpet premiere of HBO's Bored To Death Season 2.
Earlier in the week I had won a contest where Molly and I were invited to be "Wine Detectives" at city winery's "Bored To Death Wine Detective Challenge". We got beautifully drunk, dined on delicious meats and cheeses (all atkins compliant) and won zero of the challenges, but we did come away with the concellation prize of a bottle each of custom made Bored To Death white wine, which considering there were only 40 people at the taster's challenge is a very scarce commodity.
One of the aforementioned bottles was in my messengerbag and although I normally could give a shit about autographs, I thought what better a piece of memorabilia to have than this bottle signed by the three stars of the series. Or at least Jonathan Ames himself (depending on how intense the red carpet security would be). . .

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2010 - 440 AMSTERDAM AVE., NEW YORK, NY
My collaborative charity piece titled "Friend's Best Man" finally hit Amsterdam Avenue (well, the window anyway) This piece was created as part of a project called Art Dogs and Cats of NY put together by PET HEALTH STORE NYC. I had to go uptown to see the dog on display, as the last time I saw it was in my old studio last winter. . .

MEET OUR NEW STUDIO CAT CRUMB
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2010 - RIDGEWOOD, QUEENS, NY
M olly and I adopted a cute as fuck kitten from a New Jersey shelter. He is a gray and white tabby we have named Crumb after the legendary underground cartoonist R. Crumb. He is a ladies man, and he plays fetch. He also doesn't mind car rides or baths. Very odd cat, but odd in the coolest of ways. . .

A TORNADO COMES TO QUEENS
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2010 - RIDGEWOOD, QUEENS, NY
After a long night of work I had just laid down to take a nap and having not been asleep for five minutes Molly woke me up in a panic. The window fan had reversed and was sucking air out rather than in. I ripped it out of the wall and closed the window as what was going on outside was phenomenal. The sounds of hail, trees collapsing, branches flying past the windows, the entire sky went dark, the sound was tremendous. . .

HBO'S BORED TO DEATH WINE TASTING
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2010 - 155 VARICK STREET, NEW YORK, NY
I was alerted to a HBO's Bored To Death sponsored Wine Tasting Event through Jonathan Ames' facebook page. You had to answer a few questions about the show and about wine on City Winery's website for a chance to win an invite to a "Bored To Death Wine Detective Wine Tasting Challenge." They were giving away 20 tickets for two, and amazingly out of thousands to enter I was one of the 20 to win. This was perfect considering the next week Molly and I would be going to the Bored To Death Season 2 Red Carpet Premier.
When I found out I was going I posted on Ames' wall. . .

ESAO ANDREWS OPENING AT JONATHAN LeVINE GALLERY
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2010 - 529 WEST 20TH STREET, 9TH FL., NEW YORK, NY
A few of the crew I met at the recent Chelsea Big Art Crawl Meetup, Jessica and Pinkus, met up with me in Chelsea once again to check out a few of the galleries we missed on the lower blocks that we didn't get a chance to visit the first time around. Unfortunatly we all got there late and most of the galleries were closed. One of the few that was still open, and the only one I had my heart set on seeing was Esao Andrews show Solid Void at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. . .

THE BIG CHELSEA ART OPENINGS
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2010 - CHELSEA , NEW YORK, NY
As I've previously mentioned in earlier updates this month, I have only recently moved to Queens and decided to get back into the swing of things to sign up for a bunch of groups of shared interests on Meetup.com (a site my friend Marc Pettersen hipped me to). I signed up with a variety of creative networking and art based groups, one of which was called "New York Art Travelers/Art Adventurers."
Now, someone had posted that the Chelsea galleries were having their big art openings on the 9th and were all going to be staying open late and that it was like the big opening event of the season. Nobody posted it as an official happening so nobody was taking charge of the event. . .

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2010 - 566 LAGUARDIA PLACE, NEW YORK, NY
After the AOL hosted Viral Marketing Meetup I met up with Molly at Skirball for their Big Boi concert. She hooked me up with ear plugs (which you needed as this show was cranked to 11) and a spot in the press section so I could get some good photos.
He sang all the hits including I'm sorry Ms. Jackson, but sadly no "Hey Ya".

The second Meetup.com meetup I decided to attend was the Viral Marketing lecture at Aol's home office in NY. It can't hurt to learn more about viral marketing, but the main reason I wanted to attend this lecture was because Duncan Watts, author of the book Six Degrees: The Science of a Connected Age
Before Duncan got his chance at the mic there were a bunch of other presenters from various companies there to talk about their sites, projects, ventures, and experiences with viral marketing.

CREATIVE MEETUP IN CENTRAL PARK
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2010 - THE GREAT HILL, CENTRAL PARK W., NEW YORK, NY
I was curious about the website Meetup.com as my friend and fellow artist Marc Pettersen had told me about it. You basically input your interests and are invited to join various groups of people with shared interests. Being I've recently moved to Queens and don't have many friends here I decided to start meeting new and creative people.
The first meetup I signed myself and Molly up for was a meetup with a group called NYC Creative Networking. The meetup was titled "Labor Day Weekend Central Park Picnic and Live Music Jam!". . .
