Chillin' at a NIKE/ THE SOURCE, Air Jordan release party at Sessa last night with the boys from Gawsie and Elevation Suite Music group, when who do you think walked in? Ja Rule!
Now, in the past year I have done a comic strip dissing him for Complex Magazine, and a few months later he signed portrait of himself (without me in the room) that I did for the LIFEbeat Sound of Art Celebrity auction. He signed the painting, I'm sure, without knowing that I was the same guy that dissed him in Complex, so I was kind of afraid that he would be mad if he ever met me, but I had to get his opinion of the strip, you know, just because.
So after weasiling my way through his linebacker wall of body guards (imagine nine walking refridgerators for which someone had managed to stretch XXXL Northface Jackets on to) I got a chance to talk with him for a while. He's very cool. I thanked him for signing the LIFEbeat painting, and showed him the comic strip from my portfolio. He was like "I SAW THIS!" He seemed pissed off and betrayed. Like he though I was a fan, now I'm pointing out that I've dissed him to his face. I assured him that I didn't write it, I only drew it and he cracked up laughing. "It's funny," he said. He's very cool, even posed for a with me, HIM HOLDING THE STRIP I DISSED HIM IN!
But a little while later some commotion broke out among Ja Rule's group when the DJ started spinning way too much 50 Cent and not enough Murder Inc. Ja wasn't having that at his party. He's on the cover of THE SOURCE this month, so I guess he's entitled. So to you Ja, thanks for taking it in stride.
