Seems like every time I write about a new piece in Maxim, the next issue breaks. This month is big though, I have two pieces in the new issue (the Maxim cover above with horseface-Duff's hanger-on sister on the cover).
Flip to pages 92 and 93 for some very interesting How To's by yours truly, I illustrated the feature "FAMILY TIES! 'OUR MOM IS A DOMINATRIX'- the header teaserline is on the cover of the issue-see above. That's not the only reason this month is big. I'm also in Maxim's little brother magazine STUFF this month too, the January issue with smokin' hot Nadine Velazquez (My Name Is Earl). Page 39 in the HYPE section to see what Michael Jackson would look like if he were to gangsta up his look. Hip-Hop makeover in my artist rendition.
Art in both Stuff and Maxim in the same month?!?! That's fucking insane? Who else can say they are in both in the same month? No one, that's who! Damn right.

CHIPMUNKS CHRISTMAS FROM THE NINTH LEVEL OF HELL
12-22-05 THIS POST'S CONTENT IS RATED:
We used to do this as kids with our my-first-Sony tape recorders. We would half-push the play button, turning normal speed tapes into "Chipmunk Versions" and turn Chipmunk tapes into "Normal Versions," but this time PATTON OSWALT , or "Spence" (From one of my favorite shows KING OF QUEENS ) really nailed it when he did his standup bit about slowing down the Chipmunks Christmas Record so that the chipmunks sound like normal humans while the "Dave" character sounds like a Demon from the 9th level.
Kevin "Time on My Hands" Roache took Patton's bit and combined it with the original LP recording on it's slowest setting as described, crafting an artistic, and hilarious song / comedy amalgam.
Turn up the volume:

In the December issue of Maxim UK, while Paris is running wild in whatever you call those white strappy things, I'm taking up some major real estate throughout the issue. I have 4 pages in there. A three page feature for single guys about how to pretend you have a girlfriend to attract women, and a one page illo about how to get laid in a warzone (classy).
I gotta thank my long time bud DAVE for modeling as the single guy character. I also want to thank my friend JAIN , and her friends Leigh Ann and Melissa as well as Jessica, and my girlfriend TRACY for all making appearances in the feature as "Various Chicks.". . .

Hello friends. For those who don't know me, I'm Cojo, Art Juggernaut.
Let me first point out that this greeting and opening update is directed at all of you urbanites who tore into envelopes this week to find two long double-sided postcards, the first of which resembles the art above.
If this sounds like you then congrats, that means that I respect your work. I've contacted you to introduce myself, hip you to my style, and give you something cool to hang on your freelancer wall. If by chance you happen to dig my work, or see potential for my style to fit perfectly into an ad campaign you might be mulling over or working on in the near future, then hell, I'm your man! Isn't it great how things seem to just work out.
I'm glad your curiosity prompted you to venture a little deeper into my odd world of line work and imagery (you obviously have good taste) and I hope you investigate my site further. I know you are swamped with work, therefore I will break down the parts of the site which will be most relevant to you (the rest is fun as well, but for time I'll go bare bones).
Before you peruse the commercial art portfolio let me point out that you will notice that I have two distinct styles, both which I do a lot of work in and have firmly established. The Street-Pop Style is the one you will identify from the postcards I sent you, the other, my more Realistic Style, is much more graphic and is also very popular. I'm very fortunate in that most of my clients have commissioned work in both of my styles.

RAPPER CAM'RON SHOT IN ARMS

On October 23rd, rapper Cam'ron got shot in both arms when three gun wielding car jackers tried to make off with Cam's Lamborghini at a red light in Washington D.C. According to his PR reps' statement: "Cam'ron was shot in Washington DC. He is currently OK, resting and recovering."
Cam'ron worked with me on a portrait of him for the celebrity charity auction "SOUND OF ART" for LIFEbeat The Music Industry Fights Aids a few years back. I hope you get a full recovery man.

QUEER EYE FOR THE HOMELESS GUY

It was only a matter of time before the Queer Eye guys started pimping homeless people's pads. Thanks to A SOCIALITE'S LIFE for the tip about the new PAGE SIX ARTICLE detailing Carson from Queer Eye's helping a West Hollywood homeless dude, I finally got to use this little update header. I made this a few years ago for an update I never got around to writing, where me and my brother spotted a homeless guy on 10th Ave with a cable TV in his refrigerator box, we joked it was the Queer Eye guys' doing, and that their next venture would be pimping refrigerator boxes on a show called "QUEER EYE FOR THE HOMELESS GUY." Wrong I know, yet not that far from reality.

NBC'S THE OFFICE BITES COJO'S MAXIM UK FEATURE
10-11-05 THIS POST'S CONTENT IS RATED:
One of the cool things you notice when you do a lot of artwork for the largest men's magazine in the world, is that a lot of the humorous writing and ideas presented in Maxim soon get "borrowed" by other sources. Maxim is the king of it's demographic, so other media that appeal to the same demographic tend to be the ones more apt to be borrowers.
It's great fun to hear radio talk jocks make bits and humor material out of features they read in the mag. I have personally sat listening and laughing my ass off as I listened to Opie and Anthony or Preston and Steve taking features I have illustrated for Maxim and turning them into games or taking calls about similar experiences people have had, in relation to the ones I drew.
But, this is different. This is the first time I've seen one of my Maxim features transformed into a half hour of NBC prime time!. . .

Sketch365.com is Cojo, Art Juggernaut's (Maxim, Vibe, Rolling Stone) year long daily Conceptual Contemporary Art Experiment of "Rendered Quick Thought" visualized from mind to paper in 365-penciled details. A new fully framable one of a kind 8 1/2" x 11" finished original pencil line-art drawing will be uploaded fresh each day to Sketch365.com, counting up from 001 to 365. Each sketch will be immediately available for purchase in a first come first serve basis.
At the conclusion of the year, and the experiment, scans of the original sketches will then be divided by subject, (roughly 35 sketches per subject) compiled, collaged and adapted into ten giant paint on canvas masterpieces. These will then be unveiled (around 6 months after the conclusion of the experiment) at an exclusive VIP Blue Chip Art Collector and Celebrity Studded Invite Only Gala in NYC.

MAXIM SEARCH FOR ZACK de la ROCHA
9-22-05 THIS POST'S CONTENT IS RATED:
Two pages in the new issue (October-2005) of the American edition of MAXIM MAGAZINE with MTV's Vanessa Minnillo on the cover. Above is a sketch from one of the five "Where's Waldo" esque panels I did for this issue (pg 88) where you have to find Rage's old front man. In their words: "WHERE'S ZACK?" " Since Rage Against the Machine broke up, Zack de la Rocha has been harder to find than D.B.Cooper."
These are some kickass complicated little crowd scenes. Five panels that are about 1"x 2" a piece, Zack hidden in each.
The second page I worked on in this issue is near the end of the mag. I illustrated 6 portraits of various musicians for the NEWS Fashion page (pg 178). Nelly, Jay-Z, Bono, P.Diddy, 50 Cent, and Travis Barker. It's for a piece about all these performers having fashion lines. Little known fact- I also did the graf-ish typography their names are written out in.

If you like the thumbnail sketch above, just wait till Sunday (Sept 25th) when I launch www.sketch365.com which will have much tighter sketches. . . eh, you'll see. COJO AND MAXIM UK GOING STEADY
9-22-05 THIS POST'S CONTENT IS RATED:
The October issue of MAXIM UK with Carmen Electra on the cover and a free giant poster of Carmen Electra- (Trust me Dave Navarro doesn't care that you fantasize about his wife) is currently on shelves and it's smashing baby! Greetings to all you UK readers who have been somehow flushed in this direction. The illustration I did for this issue was so well liked by the higher ups that they made it a regular page for me. It was an odd subject matter, in that it was a crowd scene, much like other CROWD SCENES I have done in the past, but this one was kinda "walking on eggshells" as it was a how to score with chicks in the midst of a terrorist attack just months after the London bombings. A totally different gig than the HOW TO SURVIVE A SUICIDE ATTACK I did for them a few years back.
Anyway, the piece came out awesome and it was really fun to draw, trying to render British Fire Trucks and British Fire Men without actually ever having seen one.
I've already worked out two more crowd scenes for the November and December issues as well as a 8 panel feature for the December issue which will no doubt be reprinted around the globe. Pick-up the October issue if you get a chance. I also just noticed from Maxim UK's website that you can get a SUBSCRIPTION TO THE MAG even if you aren't a resident of England. I'll be looking into that further when I have more time.

COJO LOVES CZECH MAXIM

It seems every piece of art I send over the Atlantic (via satellites) to Great Britain for print, Czech Republic's Maxim ends up calling, and wanting it for their magazine as well.
I have personally never been to the Czech Republic but I hear such great things from my writer friend INK who was there earlier this year. I'll have to make it a personal goal to head out there sometime in the next few years.
If any of you Czech Maxim readers have a phat pad with a spare bedroom in Prague and wouldn't mind me and MY CHICK crashing over for a few days, touring the city with the guidance of a native in the halcyon of Absinth, hit me with an email. This sounds like a good reason to travel.

DEADLINES DON'T SLEEP FOR BLOGS
8-26-05 THIS POST'S CONTENT IS RATED:
It's a bitch when you are on deadline (I got a new American Maxim job in), you have a cold, and you have an entire summer worth of experience in your head and CD'S full of digital photographs lying around, and you have to decide what to write about in the limited time you have to write in between sketching, photo shoots, interviews, and large doses of Vitamin C and Cold-Eeze.
I'll try to write a lot more next week, a lot of catching up to do. I think for my 28th Birthday next month, along with launching my sketch project, I will finally sit down and, as a treat to myself, and who ever gives a shit, I will write all about my 26th Birthday (where Grammy Winners performed in my honor at Club Flow) and my 27th Birthday in Vegas I've never written about.
I'm glad I was able to share one of my fucked up vacation experiences with you today- see the Marksapalooza update below. Stay tuned, next week I'll write about two other vacation experiences this year that "didn't go according to plan." I'll also write about the one vacation this year that went amazingly well. No car breakdowns, no bad service. A relaxing vacation that went off without a hitch. Here is the preview:

The party was not an "industry party." It was an intimate party for women and couples, because there would be strippers. Female strippers. This spurred my curiosity, and since I would be doing the town already and Tracy had never experienced live strippers before, I knew I would have to make an appearance. . .

If you have ever seen King Magazine, it's like the black version of Maxim, featuring photos of the hottest black women on Earth, so ya knew going in that this party was gonna be crazy. . .

Marksapalozza, as fun as it was, ended like a flaming turd, so when TRACY got word that her brother and sister had rented a beach house for a week in Cape May, New Jersey and had invited us to come, we welcomed the invite.
Vacations are exausting, but they should be relaxing as well. If you play your cards right they should be more relaxing than they are exhausting. So far, we were in a serious exaustion overload, but we figured, it couldn't get any worse. . . we figured wrong. . .

I walked around the industrial complex, and didn't see any signs of life. After 10 minutes I stumbled on a CURVES Gym, which is a chain of all-woman gyms for overweight chicks. I figured maybe like a normal gym they might have some protein bars, or water I could buy, so I went in. I had no idea what I would be walking into (no guy really does).
