MEMORIAL DAY BAR-B-QUE 5-30-05
TRACY and I ended up at FAMOUS DAVE'S "Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que" , which, I have never heard of but is apparently both "famous" and "legendary." Who says? Them, even though, according to their website they have only been in business a year.
The only reason I'm going into this story is because this restaurant must have one of the most suckily illustrated and ill-conceived mascots any food chain has ever adopted. Not only is the art bad (a poorly drawn porky pig rip-off- SEE FOR YOURSELF) but the concept itself is nauseating. The restaurant serves Bar-B-Que pork. The logo depicts a Cannibalistic-Porky Pig in white chef hat, salivating over a massive rack of pork ribs.
If cute little Porky Pig licking his chops moments before eating his mom's innards doesn't kill your appetite, what will?
Why Mickey D's and their ilk don't make happy cows smiling and roasting up each other's arses is obvious, it's not appetizing. Things that aren't appetizing don't help to sell burgers. They've test marketed this shit to death, believe me, if they tested it and it did help sell more burgers, they would have all proudly made Cherubic Cannibalistic Cartoon Cows their mascots fifty years ago.
It's just bad business to remind the gluttonous consumer that the overpriced anomalous slab of meat they are about to shove down their throat was once a cute little pink smiling farm animal. In Famous Dave's, said pig also chopped down trees (one of the 6 foot paintings we had to look at while eating), and happily cooked-up and devoured it's fellow pig. Christ, in real life pigs don't smile, Famous Dave's actually went out of their way to make the visual perception of the animal we'd be eating cuter and less edible than it actually is in reality! Hurrah for bad art!
In my opinion; Daves could only be considered famous, if fame entails turning a beloved stuttering Looney Tunes character into a pink, grill fork wielding, flesh crazed, Jeffrey Dahmer!
We ordered chicken.
