WHERE THE WILD THINGS WERE BORN 6-13-05
Although I love the fine art world, and the illustration biz, some of my favorite artwork resides in the pages of children's books. Many of the greatest artists of today's first influences, or first introductions into art at all were through the pages of the children's books of Maurice Sendak and others.
An exhibit about the 50 year career of Maurice Sendak is on display at THE JEWISH MUSEUM at 1109 Fifth Avenue (northeast corner of 92nd Street) New York, NY. If you are an artist looking for a little inspiration, this is a good place to start.
Who knows, maybe you'll get all nostalgic for real drawing skills, as opposed to all the 3-D shit you see in the theaters today and write a letter to the major film studios to bring back 2-D. One voice becomes very loud when we all speak at once
If they (they being the major 3-D animation houses) ever try to turn this book into a 3-D animated film the way they did with one of my other favorite beautifully illustrated children's books Chris Van Allsberg "The Polar Express" (which turned out to be a clunky poorly executed CG Trainwreck- shaming the original, and the artist) just to turn a quick buck; I will personally have to start a campaign to stop them. Some type of campaign to keep major film studios from converting our childhood classic picturebooks into 3-D Computer Generated Merchandising Blockbuster Shit-Heaps.
Who's with me?
Just another day in the life of an Art Juggernaut.
