Maxim has finally hit its 100th issue, and this issue also marks my fourth year anniversary of freelancing for them. This issue is a great read for any long time MAXIM MAGAZINE (The Number One Men's Lifestyle Magazine In The World) fan, because it gives a look back on the best and most memorable moments of the first 100 issues.
On page 126-127 there is a two-page spread of Cameron Diaz from issue #67. On page 126 in giant type it says "THE BEST OF MAXIM." The best of maxim features 52 spreads, pin-ups, and the best features of the last 99 issues. If you flip past this opening spread to page 128- THE VERY FIRST IMAGE on page 128 in the "THE BEST OF MAXIM" is a reprinting of "A Day In The Life of Kevin Costner." (As it originally printed) Page 128-see above
This was the first strip, or piece of art in any form, I ever did for Maxim. It originally ran in the April 2002 issue and was reprinted a special oversized "BEST OF MAXIM" special release magazine few years back, and now in issue 100.
Here is what the copy on page 128 under the strip says:
"We kicked off our groundbreaking series on the nuances of celebrity angst with this poignant examination of the silent hell endured by everyone's favorite monosyllabic thespian."
When it says groundbreaking, it's NO JOKE that regular full-page strip helped BRING FULL PAGE STRIPS BACK TO MAGAZINES.
I'm honored to have done so many strips and illustrations, features, logos, icons, and panels in both my Realistic Style, and my Cojo Style in Maxim since this originally printed, and feel privileged to be part of what makes Maxim the best magazine of it's kind in the world.

I also did the back page art for issue 100 "ACROSS THE USA." The second back page in a row (see issue 99). The cartoony mouse from the illustration on the back page was also silhouetted out and reprinted on page 16 (the contents pages). It's not often I'm asked to make a piece where I can work in my realistic style and my Cojo style in one piece, but in this one it was appropriate. In the original concept the mouse was flipping the bird- this was changed by the time I started work on the finish.
