CONAN O'BRIEN'S RAGING GRAPHIC DESIGNER
10-10-06 POST RATED: Cojo, Conan O'Brien, Pierre Bernard

I read an interview recently with Conan O'Brien on THE ONION'S AV CLUB.COM . In the interview Conan had a terrific quote about modern society that I had to pull:

"In our culture, something is either great, or it sucks."
- CONAN O'BRIEN Late Night With Conan O'Brien

I'd like to think that this site is an exception to that rule in that it sucks, but it's also great. . .Conan's got a bit I love with their staff graphic artist, the legendary Pierre Bernard. It's called "Pierre Bernard's Recliner of Rage."

If you've never seen the bit, Conan asks Pierre if he's comfortable and angry. Pierre replys: "Comfortable and furious Conan." Then Pierre will rant about whatever is bothering him that day. (SEE PIERRE BERNARD SPEAK ON COMPUTER SCANNERS .

I wanted to see if Pierre created artwork outside of his day job so I googled him and found his website TOTALLY GRAPHIC.com . Pierre has a style of portraiture that from the looks of it is both time consuming and amazingly intricate. His DOTMAN style is unique to Pierre. It's a pointilist portrait style, where he creates the figures by applying colored dots to paper in carefully executed circular patterns that pull your eye in and out of the piece.

Nice work Pierre, a total deviation from your Late Night styles. Pierre commented on my myspace.com/artsucks page last week.

"GREAT ARTWORK!"

At least he doesn't think it sucks.

Artsucks.com tracks the f_cked-up visual life and mind of COJO ART JUGGERNAUT (MAXIM, ROLLING STONE, VIBE), a Gen-X artistic zeitgeist trudging the streets of Manhattan (Philly, Vegas, Bklyn, etc...), gnawing on the big rotten apple for all it's worth, and getting drunk on the cider. . .
Celebrity encounters, industry parties, the ins and outs of the art world, paparazzi, models, and deranged homeless people bathing in their own urine. No topic is safe, and the unusual is commonplace. . .
