The HornyManatee.com Victoria's Seacow project was a success. On January 11th my artwork was broadcast on American television giant NBC's chat show Late Night With Conan O'Brien. Not only was it shown on the air, but was touted by Mr. O'Brien as a "Masterpiece." (Click the image above or WATCH VIDEO HERE)

As you might remember from an update I wrote a month ago (read the hornymanatee project here) Conan O'Brien created a parody web porn site called HORNYMANATEE.COM featuring a person in a Manatee costume posing in erotic situations. The site took off virally and now has been seen by more than 20 million visitors. Just before the holidays Conan announced on the air that they were starting to accept fan art submissions, the funniest of which would get on the show.

I took this on as an art project. It's not often a major network's top properties give out an illustration assignment. I brainstormed a spoof of Victoria's Secret with Manatees instead of women. Victoria's Seacow (see below)

I submitted the art just before New Years and by January 4th it was being displayed on HornyManatee.com (SEE THE ART ACTUALLY ON HORNYMANATEE.COM). After that it was a crapshoot if it would actually get shown on the air. There were almost 500 pieces in the Hornymanatee gallery at the time, and Conan only airs a few pieces of artwork (if any) on Late Night each week, so the odds were stacked against me.

Not two weeks later Conan talked about the manatee site and presented three new pieces of submitted fan art. The first piece he showed was my (Cojo's) Victoria's Seacow artwork. I have no idea why he got my name wrong, calling me "Anne O." on the air. I guess some wires got crossed between the website (which credits me Artsucks D.) and the teleprompter, but either way I was glad it made the airwaves, got a good laugh, and was called a "Masterpiece" by the man himself, Mr. Conan O'Brien.

I noticed that my friend PIERRE BERNARD (read: Pierre Bernard's Recliner of Rage ) who is a great artist and one of the designers on Late Night had done one of his Recliner of Rage segments on this same episode. I sent him an e-mail letting him know I had art on the same episode. Considering I was mis-credited as "Anne O." on the show he didn't realize that I had done the piece, but he totally made my day when he told me:

"That was a great piece of art. We were all talking about it in the art department. Really good job. I can't wait to tell them at work I know the artist behind that piece."
-PIERRE BERNARD

I love Late Night With Conan O'Brien and I'm sure this won't be the last time my work appears on that show. Cool shit kids, welcome to the future.
