First I have to thank photographer Thomas J. Dougherty for the great shots in this article. Molly and I played it low key this year for the fourth. Inspired by our stop at South Of The Border in June we decided to skip the usual passive NYC rooftop party / fireworks viewing from the sidelines for some good ol' fashion do it yourself blow yer hand off American fun.
Before you 1984 narcs out there start ratting me out to the cops, let's just say that this went down in PA where fireworks are totally legal. It may not be true, but let's just say that it is. My poet friend Chris Caruso and a bunch of his relatives, as well as photog Tommy D., my girlfriend Molly and myself ate hot dogs & hamburgers, drank beer, listed to music, played poker, lit off a shit ton of fireworks, wrote our names with sparklers, and then watched Louie CK's hilarious new FX show.
Not much else to write about other than it was fucking fun and that Tom took some great shots. Hope you all had as much low-key good clean American debauchery as we did. Here is a small sampling of our night:
