Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 8pm - 2am, the official date and time of the ArtSucks 10 Year Anniversary Relaunch Party is a little over a month away and we have locked down the most amazing venue! Studio XXI (Studio Twenty One), discreetly located on the second floor of an unmarked building in the heart of Chelsea is a new hidden gem of an event space.
Studio XXI exterior facing west.
Studio XXI exterior facing east.
Studio XXI's windows overlook 6th Avenue.
The view is even more stunning at night.
The interior is designed as an homage to the vintage recording studio.
Beautiful antique mirrors line the left wall.
Walnut trim and leather panels laid on exposed brick.
Studio XXI daytime lighting.
Studio XXI nighttime lighting.
Studio XXI also has three commissioned paintings by Alec Monopoly. This one is in the DJ Booth, which designed to look like a soundproof recording booth.
Alec's stuff always cracks me up, because back in 2003 I did a three drawing series for Maxim Magazine of the Monopoly guy in compromising situations called "get out of the doghouse cards" in the same vein as "get out of jail free cards", but for those uncomfortable situations where you screw up with your spouse (see below) "Sorry for getting drunk and vomiting on your sister's wedding cake card."
"Sorry for sneaking in late without calling and letting you know where I was card."
"Sorry for having sex with my secretary in our bed card."
Cojo @ Studio XXI.
The space holds 200 and between THE FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE and the two art Meetups: Wired New York and ArtForward we are already at over half capacity without any other promotion (which there will be a ton; flyers, websites, etc.) and over a month to go.
I want to pack the place out, I'm thinking of having a red carpet area with a logo wall (step and repeat) for press photos, lots of art on display, performances, prizes and giveaways, ArtSucks swag, corporate sponsorships, you know. . . the works!
I hope to see all of you there, as this is really going to be a really fun celebration of 10 years of art blogging in NYC!
If you own or are connected with a company looking to get a foothold in the New York Art Scene, and would like to be a sponsor for this event. Contact the event's promoter Cris AC for details.
