I knew full well that the new four person group show "Survival" at Lambert Fine Arts was going to be a packed house. Instructions on the invite read, “Gas masks and survival gear encouraged.” I packed up my gear (camera gear, not survival) and headed over in anticipation of who knows what. The other reason it would be packed had nothing to do with survival. It was the first ever gallery showing of Mia Tyler's photography. Mia, younger sister to actress Liv Tyler, daughter of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. Yes, that Mia Tyler.
She's been an actress and model for years, and now she was breaking into the fine art world with a bullet, and the crowd did not dissapoint. It grew steadily over the course of the night. The beer ran out quickly, and normally that's the deathnill for an art show, but the crowd actually kept growing. An hour after the beer had been kicked the party had spread to the street. . . but we will get to that. First things first, the opening.
The show was an interesting mix of large typographic paintings, gothic / post apocolyptic photographs, brass steampunk style sculptures, and graphite drawings of cars and locomotives

I had to blow out of there before the cops literally showed up and closed the show down Mia Tyler's at opening such a gas, cops close it - NY POST Page 6 because I didn't want to miss the opportunity to see Lou Reed perform with the Joshua Light Show.
I got to talk to Mia through facebook a few days later. Her work was strong, and the turnout was killer.
"I gotta say, it was my first real art show and I was & am still nervous about it all. My art self-esteem isn't as strong as my human self-esteem yet. But hearing that from you makes me feel good about it all.
I did a small show at my friends store back in February. But it was just pictures I had taken over the years. This show was my first real show where I was given a theme and a deadline. I seem to work better that way. So thanks!!! Looking forward to the article. Hope you went easy on me <3." - Mia Tyler
Molly of course now assumes I will leave her for Mia Tyler.
Just another day in the life of an art juggernaut.
