ECHANIQUE & WEST
BOLT OPENING @ GALLERYBAR
WED. 2-13-13 L.E.S., NY
After taking tons of great pictures at the crowded opening of Single Fare 3 at RH Gallery in Tribeca I started to head north for my second stop of the night, Raquel Echanique & Laura West's show at GalleryBar on Orchard Street.
I caught the J train on Chambers Street. I guess that side of the platform has been out of commission for many, many years. I looked it up on Forgotten New York and there are many articles on this platform time forgot, one refers to it as a "moldy mausoleum" and another as a "Chambers of Horrors" lots of good photos for futher investigation if you want to dive down that wormhole. The shortest version of the story is that it was built in 1913, and has been unused since 1967.
I arrived two hours into the opening so people we already settled in and enjoying themselves. This is a bar / gallery so the walls are set up for displaying work.
